Executive Short Course on Resources Management using the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources
On 22 October, EIT Raw Materials and the International Raw Materials Observatory will co-organise an “Executive Short Course on Resources Management using the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources”. This one-day course on the UNFC is designed for senior policymakers and industry leaders from the public and private sector and will be held at the Centre International de Conferences (CICG) in Geneva, Switzerland. It will provide the know-how and insights required to work towards better management and governance of oil, gas, mineral and anthropogenic resources and contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals. At the end of the course, the participants will be able to use the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) as a resources’ management tool.

The short course is organised back-to-back with the World Resources Forum (WRF) 2019 which will be held from 23 to 24 October 2019 at the Centre International de Conferences (CICG) in Geneva, Switzerland. WRF 2019 will be centred on the theme of ‘Anchoring Natural Resources and Raw Materials Management for Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production’.

Intermin will be travelling to Ecuador in South America this October from 21-25, 2019.
The international conference will be held at ESPOL Politechnical University in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
The conference will be in Spanish and English the “motto” is:

There will be conferences, high-level meetings, round table discussions, visits to big mining project and also to artisanal gold mining.
After the meeting, Intermin partners are invited to join the local researchers for a project which they are carrying out in Galapagos islands. The project deals with raw materials issues and supplies.

Second round of the INTERMIN Delphi Survey - Mining towards 2050
INTERMIN is conveying the second and final round of the Delphi Survey. Within this survey, statements are presented about the future (2030-2050), and you are invited to freely comment and express your opinions.
In the second round of Delphi Survey you would be able to,
- Review the statistics of expertise and level of agreement for each statement;
- Review selected quotes and suggestions made by participants that best represented the overall views;
- Change, update or maintain your previous judgement's in light of other's comments.

Report: Social acceptance in the European raw materials sector
Social acceptance and trust is seen as approval, consent, demands, and expectations from the local community and other stakeholders in relation to specific local projects. The concept has become increasingly important, especially in the extractive industry such as mining, oil, and gas, and more recently it has been adopted also in other economic sectors such as energy production, agriculture, and forestry. However, mining has been associated with a negative image amongst European citizens and worldwide. The positive contribution of mining to everyday activities, to GDP, to manufactured goods consumption, to innovation and to green technology is often overlooked. Society’s reliance on and appreciation of consumer goods is not always reflected in its appreciation of the underlying extraction and processing activities.
The Horizon 2020 calls for projects encourage consortia to investigate a possible strategy on how civil society will be engaged in order to build public acceptance and trust in the mining and recycling sectors in Europe. The workshop aimed to help in obtaining a broader understanding of how extraction activities are received in different parts of Europe and worldwide, and how they are perceived in terms of impact on society - both in terms of wealth (growth and jobs), and welfare (social and cultural values).
INTERMIN Project: "Skills and training in community relations, mining conflicts and artisanal mining in the Andes" (Page. 17 & 18)
Mr Luis Jordá Bordehore, who works at the international relations department of the Spanish Geological Survey represented INTERMIN.
The presentation was dedicated to the INTERMIN project that aims to identify the skills required (graduate) for the mining and mineral raw materials sectors, gaps between available training programmes and industry needs and explore future pathways to integrate both. INTERMIN will create a self-sustainable long-term lasting international network of training centres for professionals. This project involves educational and research institutions in the EU and the leading counterparts in third countries, based on specific country expertise in the primary and secondary raw materials sectors. Mr Bordehore described the main issues faced today by the mining industry in the Andes regarding social acceptance. The Andean regions, which comprise Peru, Chile and Bolivia have a rich mining history, developed from the Spanish colonial era until today.

INTERMIN in the EGU2019
INTERMIN members will attend one of the most important geosciences meetings in the world. The EGU General Assembly will take place in Vienna (Austria) on 7–12 April 2019, and will bring together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary, and space sciences. We wish to present our project under the topic: "Geoethics and geoscientists’ responsibility towards society".

Society of Mining Professors
Of course in INTERMIN we do not forget the society of mining professors. A fundamental pillar to gather information on the needs of the sector and the teaching offer. INTERMIN members will attend the meeting and present the project.

INTERMIN collaborates with MINETRAIN Project
From Minguide, we are collaborating with the Minetrain project, which is also focused on teaching and developing the skills in mining.
